As a Party to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the Government of Nepal (then Ministry of Population and Environment) completed the preparation of the first Initial National Communication report. Immediately, Nepal entered into an agreement with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)/GEF to launch a project on Expedited Financing of Climate Change Activities: Part II (Technology Needs Assessment) for capacity building in priority areas and take care of the identified gaps of the initial national communication.
The TNA Project will focus on Identification and evaluation of human and institutional capacity in legal aspects and practices on technologies, with a focus in climate change abatement or adaptation on sectors such as Energy and LULUCF. The Project will collect and assess specific technology needs, hold awareness and skill development programmes, and build capacity to assess technology needs, modalities to acquire and absorb them, design, evaluate and host projects. The Project will equally contribute to build human and institutional capacities to participate and successfully conduct systematic observation on climate change within Nepal.
The TNA Project is expected to contribute and strengthen activities of the National Communications. The UNEP/GEF has provided US$ 0.1 million. This project will contribute to document technologies required for addressing the impacts of climate change in the country. This Project is coordinated by the Climate Change Management Division in the Ministry.
